Dog-Friendly

Dog-Friendly Guide to Asheville | Dog City USA

The dog-friendly guide to Asheville, NC has been by far my most requested blog post yet and, drumroll please… it’s finally here! Obviously.

As some of y’all might know, I recently got back from a two-week road trip to some of the most dog-friendly cities in the United States, and, of course, Asheville was one of them!

I will warn y’all — our trip was very beer-focused, so the amount of brewery to restaurant/etc ratio was wayyy off. That doesn’t mean I didn’t do all the research though, so these are still my favorite dog-friendly spots in Asheville.

One quick tip: Asheville is in the mountains, which means the weather can be a little unexpected and can change at a moment’s notice. We had an unexpected below-freezing day that we weren’t prepared for. So, regardless of what the weather app tells you, pack a few different layers for you and your pups!

Alright, enough talking. Without further ado, I present you with our dog-friendly Asheville, NC guide:

Best Dog-Friendly Hotels in Asheville

Kimpton Hotel Arras

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again: Kimpton hotels are the best hotels when it comes to dog-friendliness. And really just the best when it comes to being incredible hotels. Their pet policy is the same across the board: you can bring in any pets, no matter their breed, weight, or even species at no extra cost.

So when we were looking for a dog-friendly hotel in Asheville, I went straight to the Kimpton website to see if there was a location in AVL. And there was. I’ve stayed at several Kimpton Hotels and this one might have been my favorite yet!

The hotel is centrally located in downtown Asheville, the staff was so kind and friendly, and there was even a little park across the street where we could take the dogs potty. We had a phenomenal experience and highly recommend staying here if you ever plan on visiting Asheville with dogs.

Aloft Asheville Downtown

Aloft is another great option for dog travelers, and their downtown Asheville hotel is no exception. They allow two pets of any size at no additional fees!

Hotel Indigo

Another dog-friendly hotel in Asheville is the Hotel Indigo, which is just on the outskirts of downtown. They allow up to two pets for an additional fee.

Best Dog-Friendly Breweries in Asheville

Alright, so y’all already know that this trip was very beer-focused, so I have a ton of recommendations for y’all. Instead of writing full paragraphs for each spot, I’m going to just do a brief highlight of each place, the beers, and the dog-friendliness. Also, I’ll put a little bonus section if the breweries offer food!

Any breweries with an asterisk next to them are located in Downtown Asheville, which means you should be able to walk to all of them!

Wicked Weed Brewing Company * —

With a huge beer menu, chances are there will be something for every beer lover. They have a huge dog-friendly patio, parts of which are covered in case of rain. They also have heaters and fire pits for the cooler days. Also, make sure to check the merch area for some fun dog swag.

Food Bonus: they are considered a brewpub and have a pretty extensive food menu. While we didn’t try any ourselves, everything we saw come out looked (and smelled) delicious.

Bhramari Brewing Company * —

A very spunky brewery with lots of innovative beers, Bhramari definitely checked our box for fun, experimental beers. They also had a pretty large, also partially covered taproom that was perfect for the doggos.

Food Bonus: they had a small menu but everything we did eat was delightful!

Green Man Brewery * —

This was our first brewery that allowed pups inside and we were thrilled! The beer was delicious, they are known for their ales, and it came out with two dog treats for the pups, which I thought was an incredible touch. The taproom was a bit small, but they also had a large number of outdoor tables.

Twin Leaf Brewery * —

With a solid list of beers (18 to be exact) and even some CBD options, this quickly became one of our favorite breweries of the day. The highlight? They allowed dogs into their taproom! They didn’t have a ton of seating, but we were lucky to go when it wasn’t busy.

Catawba Brewing Company * —

Another dog-friendly inside and out brewery, Catawba won our hearts for their giant indoor space and incredibly friendly staff. Their beer was also phenomenal, with a huge selection to please even the pickiest beer drinkers.

Food Bonus: while they don’t have an on-site restaurant or permanent food truck, they do often bring food trucks by to feed the crowds.

One World Brewing Company * —

Probably my favorite Asheville brewery, One World has a speakeasy vibe to it while also still having the beloved brewery feel to it. Located in the basement of a downtown building, the taproom is small yet totally dog-friendly. They have some tables outside, but I promise you the inside is worth it. Plus, their selection of malty beers was out of this world (pun intended).

Food Bonus: they don’t technically offer food, but, Farm Burger is right above them and you can order/have it delivered to the taproom. It’s delicious!

Burial Brewing Company * —

Another of the top breweries in Asheville, Burial has a huge and funky outdoor area that is totally dog-friendly. They even have some old cars-turned tables that make perfect photo-ops. Their main beer focus revolves around IPAs and pales, but they had an incredible pils and other easy-drinking beers.

Food Bonus: they have a full-kitchen specializing in American comfort food, but we didn’t get a chance to try it.

Highland Brewing Company

Okay, this brewery is slightly out of the downtown area, but definitely worth visiting if you have a car. Their space is huge, and their taproom and patio are both dog-friendly. They are actually Asheville’s oldest brewery, and still offer their Gaelic Ale, which is known to be Asheville’s very first craft beer.

DISSOLVR * —

Asheville’s newest (and funkiest) brewery, DSSOLVR is known for its surreal vibes. Their taproom and patio are dog-friendly and they offer some incredible beers. The brews range from phenomenal classics like a picture-perfect Kölsch to innovative cold ones like their sea salt, coriander, peach, prickly pear, blackberry, and blueberry sour.

Food Bonus: while they don’t have any on-site food, they often times bring in food trucks or other vendors.

Hi Wire Brewing Company * —

Probably the most colorful brewery in Asheville with their rainbow walls, Hi Wire offers a wide selection of fruited sours and other classics. We tried a Mediterranean Stout (the first time we’d heard of the style) and were so impressed we had to take some home! Dogs are allowed inside the taproom and they even have treats for their four-legged customers.

Wedge Brewing

Wedge was one of the most recommended breweries for our trip, and although we didn’t get the chance to visit, I still got the full scoop on this dog-friendly Asheville brewery. They have two locations, but their original is the most-visited. They have a huge dog-friendly patio and a plethora of beers in just about every style.

Food Bonus: as a brewpub, they offer a wide selection of eats!

Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Bars in Asheville

Alright, like I mentioned earlier, we mostly ate at breweries. So this selection might be small, but if it’s on the list, it’s definitely worth visiting.

Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack

While we’re not in Nashville, Asheville does also have a great selection of hot chicken options. Rocky’s was phenomenal, and we loved that their “patio” was enclosed, covered, and totally dog-friendly.

Biscuit Head

As the name might suggest, this is the perfect spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch. But mainly brunch. Their biscuits are phenomenal and the staff so so kind. Their patio is dog-friendly but kind of small, so definitely get there early if you’re bringing a dog.

Tupelo Honey

Y’all. I’m still dreaming about Tupelo Honey. They are world-famous for their chicken, biscuits and brunch, but truly everything we had was incredible. Their patio is dog-friendly and partially covered, but they do fill up very quickly, so I recommend calling a few days in advance to make a reservation.

Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar

Okay, this might be my new favorite place in the whole wide world. Books, champagne, cocktails and dogs — what more could you ask for? They are totally dog-friendly and have an incredible space you won’t want to miss.

All in all, Asheville now ranks on my top dog-friendly cities list. The downtown area was gorgeous and so easily walkable. The breweries kept appearing on every corner, and we didn’t encounter a single one that wasn’t dog-friendly.

But it was really the vibe that I loved the most — everyone was so kind, respectful and loved seeing the pups walk around. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more of the nature in the area, so keep an eye on this post as it will be updated in the future!

Safe travels,
GGW Momma
