Dog-Friendly San Antonio Travel Guide

Howdy pals!

Traveling with dogs is both phenomenal and stressful — trying to find hotels, restaurants and activities in a new city is hard enough without having to make sure they are dog-friendly as well. That’s why we are doing the dirty work for you!

We’re so excited to present the first of many dog-friendly travel guides! Trot along as we share the best of dog-friendly San Antonio, TX!

Best Dog-Friendly Hotels

  • La Quinta Inn & Suites San Antonio Downtown — La Quinta is always our go-to hotel while traveling with dogs because they are so welcoming and so accommodating to dogs of all sizes! Their official pet policy normally has a weight restriction, but they say to call the hotel to accommodate larger dogs (yes, even 150lbs Great Danes).
  • Hotel Havana — they welcome up to two dogs for a small fee per stay.
  • Hotel Gibbs — they welcome up to three dogs for a fee per stay.

Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Bars

  • All restaurants at the Pearl Brewery — the Pearl district is home to some fabulous restaurants, and just about all of them have great shaded patios perfect for dogs! Our favorite spot was Southerleigh Fine Foods and Brewery.
  • The Hangar — a great spot close to the airport, they have a great selection of bar food and over 70 rotating craft beer labels. Plus, their patio (and their staff) is extremely dog-friendly!
  • Social Spot — a very fun “dive-y” bar with a hugeee dog-friendly patio! Plus, they have lots of shade and huge fans to help keep everyone cool during the Texas summer.
  • Candlelight Coffeehouse — a cute little coffee shop and restaurant, they have an adorable patio perfect for brunch or just relaxing with your pup.
  • Stella Public House — pizza lovers unite! This spot features mouthwatering pizza, a delicious brunch menu, specialty cocktails and a great partly-shaded patio.
  • The Cove — a great spot for just about anything you need (they even have a self-serve dog wash), they are best known for being a delicious restaurant featuring organic food, craft beer and live music.

Best Dog-Friendly Breweries

  • Weathered Souls Brewing Company — although a bit far from Downtown San Antonio, this spot is totally worth the drive. The staff is so friendly, they have a great turfed patio perfect for pups and the beer was phenomenal.
  • Künstler Brewing — a quaint little German brewery, they are crushing the beer (and food) game. Dogs are allowed on their covered patio and in their indoor game room.
  • Roadmap Brewing Co. — our favorite brewery in San Antonio for two reasons: their deliciously crisp brews and the fact that dogs are allowed inside in the AC.
  • Islla St. Brewing Co. — one of the newest breweries in San Antonio, this smaller brewery really packs a punch. They have innovative brews (I’m looking at you Cheesecake Brown), a fun atmosphere and they allow dogs inside.
  • Alamo Beer Company — a large beer hall with an even bigger patio, this is a perfect spot to bring the whole family (dogs included) and hang out for a few hours. Dogs are not allowed inside, but there’s plenty of shade in the outdoor area.
  • Busted Sandal Brewing Company — don’t let the simple aesthetic fool you, this brewery makes up for their basic (valley-girl voice) decor with their mouthwatering brews. Plus, dogs are allowed in their air-conditioned taproom!

Best Dog-Friendly Activities

  • Brooklyn and her friends at the Pearl in San Antonio
  • Brooklyn and her friends at the Pearl in San Antonio
  • Visit “The Pearl” Farmers Market — every Saturday and Sunday from 9am-2pm various local vendors gather around the Pearl. Here you’ll find delicious food, fresh produce and even dog goodies! Pro-tip, you can buy a beer from any of the restaurants and walk around as you shop. And, there is also a small fenced-in dog park behind some of the shops!
  • Romp at Madison Square Dog Park — this cute little dog park is perfectly shaded to provide a place for pups to run without being in the sun. There is a separate area for small dogs.
  • Shop at La Cantera — an indoor/outdoor mall, this hotspot allows dogs to shop along with their owners are most stores.
  • Walk down the Riverwalk — grab your pup and take a walk down the river for one of the most beautiful spots in San Antonio. While most of the restaurants have dog-friendly patios, it’s important to remember this is a highly tourist-y area so the food/experience may cater to that.
  • Hike Phil Hardberger Park — there are multiple great hiking trails and a huge heavily shaded dog park with a separate area for small dogs.
  • Lounge at Brackenridge Park — an absolutely gorgeous (and dog-friendly) park near some San Antonio landmarks. Take the whole family out for a stroll and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
