The Apollo Project
Cancer. One single word that can absolutely wreck the lives of a dog and its humans. I would know, it happened to us.
Apollo, our Great Dane, my soul dog, my ESA, my best friend, was diagnosed with canine lymphoma at just four-years old. I couldn’t believe it — these things only happen to other people, not to my otherwise perfectly healthy better half. But it did.
You can find out more about Apollo’s experience with canine lymphoma here and how we celebrated our last few weeks together here, but long story short, we went through the best treatment options available for him. It gave us an extra nine months with our big guy, and we couldn’t have done it without the generous donations of thousands of strangers online.
They gave us the opportunity to put Apollo through chemotherapy, which allowed us to go on so many adventures together before he crossed the rainbow bridge.
And now I want to do the same thing for other dogs and their owners who may be going through the same thing.
This is why we are launching The Apollo Project. A fund dedicated to helping pay for the cancer treatment of dogs with lymphoma and other types of terminal cancers. If the owners or veterinarians have decided treatment isn’t the best option, then we will be donating money to help them make some memories together.
Want to donate?
We accept several forms of donation, all of which are linked below. If you would like to donate using a different channel, please contact us
Venmo — @theapolloproject
GoFundMe (they take 5% of the proceeds, where as the options above don’t)
If you have a dog who has recently been diagnosed with canine lymphoma or another form of terminal cancer and want to be considered as a beneficiary for The Apollo Project, please submit an application here.
All donations will be kept secure and will fully go to help approved applicants with their cancer diagnosis. We will update this page with all of the dogs we are able to help, so if you have donated, be sure to come back here to see the lives you have impacted.
Apollo, thank you for touching the lives of us, and so many other people. It is thanks to you that we are now able to help other dogs live their best lives alongside their humans, for as long as possible before you greet them at the gate of the rainbow bridge.
With love,
Melanie
