Top Dog-Friendly Austin Breweries, Restaurants and Bars

Hey hey, Austin! To kick off our blog we thought we would showcase some of our favorite dog-friendly spots to visit around town! Whether you prefer breweries, bars or restaurants, this list will help you find your next go-to spot.

Not only will we be listing out the places, but we’ll be providing personal and thorough reviews of each place so that the only question you have left while reading this is “why haven’t I been there yet?”.

So, with no further ado, here’s our list of favorite dog-friendly bars, restaurants and breweries in Austin:

Breweries

Before we get started, I wanted to remind you that we have a complete Austin dog-friendly brewery directory to help you determine if you should bring Fido along with you on your next beerveture.

Celis Brewery

One of our all-time favorite breweries is perfectly located in central Austin. Not only are each and every one of Celis‘ beers delicious, but their taproom is dog-friendly! That’s right, you can bring your dogs inside! This makes it one of our favorite places to spend those blazing summer days — there’s nothing better than sitting inside in the AC enjoying a beer with your dog by your side.

While they offer a selection of packaged bar snacks, they often have a food truck on weekends or special events. If you’re hungry, we recommend calling ahead to find out if there will be food that night.

Blue Owl Brewing

Sour beer lovers unite! Blue Owl Brewing is sour-central, with all of their beers being of the sour variety. Not only can they make a mean beer, but their taproom is also dog-friendly! Keep in mind the taproom is fairly small and fills up quickly, but they also have a chic patio for you to lounge on. 

While they don’t have a resident food truck, they sometimes have different trucks swing by on the weekends. We recommend eating beforehand, bringing a snack with you or calling ahead if you’re hungry.

Circle Brewing Company

Circle is a small brewery features a large beer collection and a cozy indoor/outdoor taproom. If you’re trying to beat the heat, grab your pup and take a seat inside — dog’s are more than welcome in the building. They also have a shaded outdoor patio if that’s more your style, or if the inside is full. It is a pretty small space, so get there early if you’re trying to nab a cool spot inside.

They are currently looking for a permanent food truck, but oftentimes have special trucks serving up snacks on the weekends. As with most breweries, it’s worth calling up before arriving to ensure there’s a food truck open and serving.

Jester King Brewery

Now, we know this is technically outside of Austin, but it had to be included. Jester King is one of our favorite weekend spots and totally worth the drive. This authentic farmhouse brewery focuses on crisp and innovative ales, all of which are perfect on a hot summer day. Since they are in the Hill Country, they are located on a gorgeous plot of land perfect for the entire family — especially dogs. There is plenty of shade, tons of seating areas and ice-cold water stations to keep everyone hydrated.

As far as food goes, they have a kitchen serving pizza made from yeast from the land (how cool is that?!) and other unique dishes created by their executive chef. Aside from their in-house food and beer, they also serve beer, cider and wine from other local producers.

Austin Eastciders

While not beer, Austin Eastciders definitely falls into one of our favorite breweries in Austin because, you might have guessed it, they let dogs inside! Dogs are not just welcomed, they are embraced. With lots of shade in the outdoor patio, water stations and quick access to potty areas, this is a solid spot to grab some drinks with your pup. If Cider isn’t your thing, Friends and Allies Brewing Company is right next door, but beware they unfortunately don’t allow dogs inside.

While neither spot offers food, there are oftentimes food trucks in the area. We recommend calling ahead of time to double-check or eating beforehand.

St. Elmo Brewing Company

St. Elmo Brewing is one of our go-to spots in South Austin — between their crisp and refreshing beer selection (we’re talking to you Carl Kolsch) and their large outdoor patio, there’s no better place to spend a summer afternoon. Dogs are welcome on the patio where there are plenty of water bowls to keep them hydrated. It does often get crowded, so if you want a shaded spot make sure to get there early!

While no food is made at the brewery, they have Soursop as their resident food truck. Soursop offers delicious Pan-Asian specialties to keep you full while you drink.

The ABGB

While the ABGB could technically fall under the “restaurants” category as they do offer food in-house, we wouldn’t be doing their amazing brewing justice. With multiple award-winning beers, they have a craft-beer selection like no other. To make it even better, they have a huge outdoor patio shaded by trees that makes a perfect spot for your pup to relax (or beg for food) while you enjoy a cold one. 

Their food selection is mostly made up of pizza … but not just any pizza, it’s freaking delicious pizza. Seriously, if you haven’t had their pizza yet, you haven’t lived. That’s all we have to say on the matter.

Nomadic Beerworks

Austin’s newest brewery, Nomadic Beerworks is serving up more than delicious beer. They have a full beer menu featuring mouthwatering brews with ingredients you wouldn’t have thought could be so good in beer (I’m looking at you, Mango Chili Wheat), and are always coming out with new and innovative brews. The owners are so friendly to both dogs and humans, they truly make the whole family feel at home. 

They are open early, serving coffee and small pastries, making it a perfect place to “work from home”. They are currently looking for a new permanent food truck, so be on the lookout for that, but remember that they are now serving fresh pretzels to go with that cold beer!

Zilker Brewing Company

Another one for the Eastside! Zilker Brewing Company is an Austin staple — they have a great mix of beers, a killer covered patio and a super cute taproom. They even have a perfectly covered and breezy patio which is perfect for pups! It’s definitely a small-ish brewery, so make sure to come early if you’re wanting to nab a coveted spot in the shade. The staff is so friendly and will make sure you and your dog are taken care of!

They have Spicy Boys Fried Chicken as their resident food truck serving up delicious bar food. Not to mention that you are in the perfect spot to go bar hopping, with at least 5 other bars being within walking distance!

Suds Monkey Brewing

Another brewery completely worth the drive is Suds Monkey. This nano-brewery in the beautiful Texas Hill Country focuses on simple yet delicious brews and a friendly atmosphere. Their air-conditioned taproom is totally dog-friendly and they even frequently have dog beers so you can share a cold one with your best friend! Pro tip: if you dig banana flavors, make sure to try the Zen Monkey Hefeweizen … muah.

As for food, they have Hop’d Up Pizza serving some doughy goodness and other bar snacks. They even have a dessert pizza — all you need to know is the base sauce is Nutella. You’re welcome.

Hitmaker Brewing Company

Speaking of the Hill Country, while you’re out there, make sure to check out the newest brewery in the area: Hitmaker Brewing Company. The small brewery serves up a wide selection of delicious beers in their air-conditioned and dog-friendly taproom. Their main focus is serving up great beers while bringing everyone together. Not convinced yet? I have two words for you: Coconut. Porter.

As for food, well, they aren’t offering anything yet. We recommend eating beforehand, or even better, make a little brewery run and stop by all of the wonderful Hill Country breweries and their kitchens.

Compadre Brewing

Compadre Brewing is one of the newest breweries in town and quickly becoming a favorite to many (and for good reason). The indoor taproom is dog-friendly and absolutely beautiful, with lots of vibrant colors and rustic decor. The beers are crisp and delicious, all of them sporting Spanish-inspired names.

They have an on-site food truck serving bites that pair perfectly with beer but be sure to call ahead and make sure they are open if you’re hungry.

Restaurants

Loro

This Asian Smokehouse on South Lamar is worth all the hype. Brought to you by the masterminds behind Franklin BBQ and Uchi, Loro serves up Tex-Asian deliciousness that will leave you wanting more (hello, brisket burger).

They have a large outdoor patio that is completely dog-friendly, including an area with picnic benches for when you’re dining, as well as two areas with more relaxed seating while you enjoy a few boozy slushies. Their happy hour is unbeatable, with drinks as low as $3 and incredible deals on some of their best-selling snacks. I am officially hungry again after writing this, thanks Loro.

Hank’s Austin

A newer addition to the Austin dog-friendly scene, Hank’s Austin completely knocks it out of the park. With a large covered patio, comfy seats and chic decor, it’s a perfect spot to bring the pups and take some #brunchgoals pictures. 

The food is a mix of casual yet fancy American fare that will leave you wanting more. Our personal favorite is the fried chicken sandwich — yum. They also have a large craft beer selection and specialty cocktail menu, with their most popular ones being on draft.

Banger’s

No trip to Austin Sunday morning is complete without a stop at Bangers. Famous for their enormous tap beer selection (202 and counting) and their mouthwatering sausages … I’ll be paying for that one later won’t I? Anyways, their giant outdoor area is a perfect place for pups — they even have an enclosed “dog park” area where your pups can play while you drink. Plus, they just expanded, adding a ton of extra covered patio spots.

Be prepared for most of their menu to contain sausages, unless you are coming for brunch which we highly recommend. Not only do they have a large selection of exquisite brunch items, a $20 “manmosa” — an entire bottle of champagne with a splash of orange juice — but they also have a live brass band jamming out on the stage. Come early, wait times often surpass two hours on Sundays.

It should go without saying, but Banger’s oftentimes gets pretty loud on Sundays. Make sure your pup is ok with loud and crowded environments before bringing them out.

Anthem

This fairly-new addition to Rainey Street is unbeatable. Anthem’s cozy dog-friendly patio is the perfect place to sit back, relax and people-watch whilst on this bustling street. If you’re a good boy, they might even bring you a platter of treats for your pup to enjoy!

The food is a Tex-Asian mix that will satisfy all of your foodie needs. Plus, you can’t beat their great selection of beers on tap and signature cocktail menu. Pro tip: come during happy hour Tuesday-Saturday from 3-6:30 pm for some incredible deals.

Haymaker

Located in East Austin/Mueller, Haymaker is a prime spot to grab a drink and hang out with your pups. The patio is a great mixture of open and covered, with the open part having tons of extra room for pups to relax. Not only that, but the employees are all super friendly, bringing water and treats to ensure your dog stays happy and hydrated.

The food is your typical American bar food, although they often have mouthwatering out-of-the-box specials. Their food, drink and beer menu is extensive, with most of their draft and bottled beers being local. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Easy Tiger

Easy Tiger has two equally amazing locations in Austin — one right off 6th street and one further north at the Linc. Both locations have an incredibly dog-friendly patio with lots of shade, water and space for the pups. Not to mention they frequently hold dog events there to celebrate the pooches of Austin.

They are a bake shop and beer garden, specializing in artisan bread and local craft beer. While their food menu isn’t sprawling, everything we have tasted has been absolutely delicious. Make sure to visit during happy hour for incredible drink specials … and a pretzel with beer cheese. Or two.

Toss Pizzeria & Pub

A new-ish spot, Toss Pizza has been killing the pizza and beer game for the last two years, all while giving back to the dog community. They have a giant covered patio where dogs are always welcome and often frequently host dog events benefiting local rescues. The owners/managers are usually out making their rounds, petting the pups and making sure you’re having a fantastic experience.

Their pizza is to die for, a classic New York style pizza with a side of Texas-flare. Don’t forget to check out their Pizza of the Month, where they usually partner with another local restaurant to create a mouthwatering creation. As for drinks, they have anything you could possibly want — specialty drinks, craft beer and sometimes even frosé! Yum.

The Local Post Pub

The Local Post Pub truly focuses on its name: being local. This neighborhood bar will make you feel right at home, no matter what neighborhood you actually live in. The staff is so friendly, plus they have a phenomenal indoor/outdoor, covered and air-conditioned “patio” that is dog-friendly.

Their kitchen serves up simple yet delicious takes on America’s bar food … think 10-pound can nachos. They have a huge selection of local beer, specialty cocktails and liquor for days, plenty of TV’s for those hoping to catch some Sunday football and inside they have a game room for those looking for a little more “action”. Not to mention, they often host dog events with various vendors, so be on the lookout for those dates!

Culinary Dropout

Perfectly located in the Domain NORTHSIDE, Culinary Dropout is one of the most popular bars in Austin. It’s a British-style gastropub serving delicious bites and innovative cocktails. Their giant (and extremely fun) outdoor patio is covered and pet-friendly, so the perfect place to cool down after a day of shopping.

Their food is delicious — do yourself a favor try the pretzels and fondue — and their drinks are always on par. While they don’t have a huuuge beer selection, they do have paper bag specials for $1.95… it’s like Christmas came early and brought cheap beer. All in all, if you’re at the Domain with your pup, coming here is a no-brainer.

Bars

Disclaimer: Ah, Rainey Street. You might have noticed how there are five Rainey Street spots on this post, but it had to happen. Basically, the entire street is dog-friendly and home to fantastic bars and restaurants. These are just our favorites.

Lustre Pearl Rainey

Lustre Pearl is not only our favorite dog-friendly spot on Rainey, but it seems like everyone else’s as well. The bar hosts multiple dog parties every year to celebrate our pooches while giving back to the dog community. What sets them apart from every other bar on this street? Their enormous, fenced-in, turfed patio. Seriously, this thing wraps all the way around the bar. There’s always plenty of shade and fans for the pups, plus a plethora of dog bowls and treats.

As for food, they have Tommy Want Wingy as their resident food truck. They are the best wings in Austin and we will fight you on that. Seriously, don’t sleep on this spot, but be prepared for a long wait — their wings are deservingly popular.

There is a second location on the East Side, which is amazing and spacious, but doesn’t have Tommy Want Wingy so chances are you won’t see us there.

Upstairs at Caroline

Located right on South Congress, Upstairs at Caroline is one of our favorite Sunday-Funday spots in town. Their indoor/outdoor dog-friendly bar is perfect for when you need some hair-of-the-dog and quick bite to eat. Plus, their decorations and comfy couches make for some kickass pictures with you and your pups.

Their food menu is small, consisting mainly of tacos and chips n’ dips, but what else do you need on a Sunday morning? They have a decent beer selection, but the breadwinner is their cocktails — draft cocktails to be exact. Plus, if you come on Sunday with your dog, you get 25% off your visit all day long!

The Little Darlin’

While The Little Darlin‘ is technically a restaurant, their claim to being your “neighborhood watering hole” and their inviting atmosphere landed them a spot on our bar list. This unique spot is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon, lounging in their giant dog-friendly patio while sipping a cold one. You will totally feel like you’re chilling in a friend’s backyard.

They have a great selection of local beers and craft cocktails, plus a locally sourced menu filled with mouthwatering dishes. Their food definitely has a southern flare, with a little bit of a fancy vibe to it. While it may be tempting to let your pups run around this giant patio, please be polite and make sure to keep them on a leash at all times.

Bungalow

Another must-hit Rainey Street spot is Bungalow. This bar appears deceivingly small from the outside, but the back patio is large and perfect for dogs. It’s mostly covered and has tons of fans and misters to keep everyone nice and cool. Bungalow often plays host to lots of dog events, so be on the lookout!

As for food, they have Wild Taco as their resident food truck, serving up delicious and authentic tacos. The best part about Bungalow for us (maybe not for them) is that they aren’t usually super crowded, so it’s a nice spot to escape some of the crowds.

Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden

Located in south Austin just minutes from Zilker Park, “Cosmic” as we affectionally call it, is the best of both worlds. With a large selection of craft beer and liquor available, as well as deliciously brewed coffee and three food trucks on-site, there is something for everyone. The best part is dogs are not only allowed on their nicely shaded patio (which has plenty of fans and misters to keep everyone cool), but since no food is made in-house, dogs are also allowed inside the building! It’s definitely a must-see spot!

8 Track Austin

A fairly new bar, 8 Track is already on its way to becoming one of our go-to spots for a drink on a hot afternoon. Why? Because their giant covered patio is completely dog-friendly! Not only that, but they have tons of bar games available to keep the whole gang entertained while sipping on a cold beer. They are a fully stocked bar with a great selection of both liquor and beer.

As for food, they do have a self-service window featuring “old-school favorites with a new-school twist”. Make sure to stop by this spot next time you are in Mueller!

Bouldin Acres

Opened in 2020, this 2-acre beer garden and “play area” is the newest addition to the 78704. Bouldin Acres is comprised of two acres of fully-turfed patio and an indoor/outdoor bar, both of which are completely dog-friendly. They also have pickleball courts, giant chess, pool tables, lawn games and lots of TVs to keep the humans entertained.

With a large selection of local beer on draft and in bottles/cans, plus two permanent food trucks serving tacos and burgers, we see ourselves spending many summer afternoons here.
